Best shape of my life’: 21-year-old admits he’s never felt better after exiting Chelsea last month

Dujon Sterling explained he was back to peak physical condition after suffering major setbacks whilst representing Chelsea.

Speaking to the Gazette, Sterling shared his uplifting fitness status.

After well over a year of turmoil on the treatment table, the young defender is finally able to stretch his legs and share the potential locked within once aching bones.

And what better way to rejuvenate than a spell down by the seaside.

Sterling signed for Blackpool on a season-long loan last month, despite reportedly impressing Thomas Tuchel in training.

The 21-year-old had only returned to competitive action in February, following a long layoff due to a hamstring injury sustained whilst on loan at Wigan Athletic.

After a few U23 appearances, the defender was promoted to rub shoulders with the seniors.

However, it became clear that Thomas Tuchel was not plotting to etch Sterling’s name into his plans for the term.

So another dip into the Football League pool beckoned. Blackpool’s stick of rock was clearly the most enticing prospect.

“It was a long time coming but it’s good to finally get it over the line,” said Sterling.

“I knew there was interest a couple of weeks ago, so I’m just happy to be here now.

“I’ve had a difficult 18 months or so without playing properly, so it’s good to be back playing competitive football again because it’s a test I need.

“I feel I’m probably in the best shape of my life, definitely the best I’ve felt in a long time. So I’m ready to go and I hope the manager sees that when I train.”

Sterling back in the money

Sterling is no stranger to life below the Premier League.

Along with his abrupted Wigan spell, the right-back spent a very successful campaign running the channels for Coventry.

He played 40 times for the Sky Blues, providing five assists and ensuring 11 clean sheets.

His memories of the second division became scarred after that stint in the West Midlands.

A bright start to life in Wigan colours quickly turned grey.

Damage to the hamstring is not a quick process to overcome.

But not one to linger on the past, Sterling is up and running once more.

Blackpool will need that positive energy in abundance, as they currently occupy a spot in the relegation zone
