Manchester United are in the mix to sign Saul Niguez from Atletico Madrid. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already signed two players so far, while also agreeing a deal in principle for Raphael Varane. But the Red Devils aren’t done yet.
According to Fabrizio Romano, speaking to The United Stand, Saul is seen as a ‘great opportunity’ by Solskjaer’s side.
Manchester United are among the clubs that have been in contact with Saúl Niguez’s agent – they have an interest in the player and consider him ‘one of the biggest opportunities on the market’,” he said.
“€40-45m will get a deal done, no bid yet.”
United have also been linked with Ruben Neves, Eduardo Camavinga and Declan Rice so far this summer.
Atletico know they can’t rely on Luis Suarez forever, while Joao Felix has disappointed since his move from Benfica two years ago.And with Martial primed to struggle for regular action at United due to the presences of Sancho and Edinson Cavani, a parting of the ways could suit all parties involved.
David De Gea
United are well-stocked for goalkeepers.
Heaton isn’t simply at the club to make up the numbers, with the former Villa star determined to claim the No 1 jersey.
They also have Dean Henderson and Lee Grant, too, meaning it’s bloated at the current moment in time.
And with David De Gea waning over the past three seasons, including him in a swap deal for Saul would be a logistical move.
It’s previously been claimed he’d welcome a return to Atletico, where he first started his career, and getting him off the wage bill would suit United as well.
Solskjaer has insisted Jesse Lingard is part of his plans for the upcoming campaign.
But he’s also said that about Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez in the past, only to end up offloading the pair instead.
Lingard wants to play regularly and, with United having so many offensive players, he’s not guaranteed the minutes he wants.
Therefore, the chance to strut his stuff for Atletico – the reigning La Liga champions and one of the best teams on the planet – could be tempting.
Lingard has also been linked with West Ham but Diego Simeone’s side are a different entity altogether.
