Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made it clear that Manchester United must improve the squad, if they are to truly contend next season.
United did finish as runners-up in the Premier League, but were a distant 12 points behind eventual champions Man City.
Defeat in the Europa League final ended the season on a sour note, with the manager admitting that the starting XI would need to be improved by new arrivals.
“I’ve been delighted with the effort, the desire, the determination of all of the players, I can’t fault them at all,” Solskjaer said in Gdansk.
“But as I said, two or three players to strengthen the starting XI and the squad all together is important for us to go even further.
“I’m sure our contenders or challengers will also want to improve and we want to improve as much as we can.”
Reports in Spain claim that Saul is ‘desperate’ to leave the Wanda Metropolitano after falling down the pecking order in 2020/21.
In total, the Spaniard made just 22 starts as Diego Simeone’s side beat Barcelona and Real Madrid to the La Liga title.
Mundo Deportivo suggest Saul is determined to leave and has named the Red Devils and rivals Chelsea as potential suitors.
