Fresh from helping Chelsea lift the UEFA Champions League last Saturday evening, attacking-midfielder Mason Mount now has the small matter of representing England at Euro 2020 this summer.
The Blues academy graduate, who claimed the assist for Kai Havertz’s winner against Manchester City in Porto last weekend,
will be looking to cement himself as a main feature within Gareth Southgate’s starting line-up as the Three Lions go in search of glory at this summer’s rearranged European Championship.
Having not seen his club season come to an end until last Saturday, Mount, alongside his fellow countrymen who play for Chelsea and City,
did not link-up with the England squad until Friday, meaning he was granted a few days rest before the hard work began.
However, there was no time for Mount to catch up with his Three Lions teammates in a social capacity as he was thrown straight into a training session ahead of England’s final warm-up match against Romania at the Riverside tomorrow,
as Southgate looks to put the final touches to his preparations ahead of next Sunday’s opening Group D match against Croatia at Wembley.
But in amongst the gruelling hard work that the Chelsea star, who is expected to be a key figure for England this summer,
had to endure, he did find time to catch up with very best friend and West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice.
The pair are good friends off the pitch and have been close for most of their lives.
Mount was, arguably, Chelsea’s shinning light this season, producing impressive performance after impressive performance.
In total, he scored nine goals and claimed nine assists in all competitions, which included key contributions in the latter stages of the Blues’ historic Champions League adventure.
Whilst Mount will be looking to shine for England alongside Rice this summer, the Chelsea ace may also use the opportunity to try and convince his best friend to seal a summer move to Stamford Bridge, with Thomas Tuchel understood to be keen on his signature.
Tuchel wants to add three new faces to his squad this summer and signing a central midfielder is believed to be high up on his wish list.
