Manchester United are eyeing up a move for Sporting Lisbon ace Pedro Goncalves, according to reports in Portugal.
The Red Devils only forked out £60million to prise Bruno Fernandes away from Sporting 16 months ago, a move which has improved Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side significantly.
And now they could be set to raid the Portuguese club for a second time, with Goncalves reportedly on their radar ahead of the summer transfer window.
According to Portuguese newspaper Record, both United and bitter rivals Liverpool are weighing up a potential move for the 22-year-old midfielder, who is a product of Wolves’ academy.
It is believed Goncalves has a £52million release clause in his contract, which Sporting are desperate to raise this summer.
The Primeira Liga outfit are hoping to tie him down to a new deal and increase his release clause to deter United and Liverpool from luring him to the Premier League.
Talk are understood to be ongoing with agent Jorge Pires, who is expected to land his client a more lucrative package.
Goncalves has just enjoyed a superb season for Sporting, registering 23 goals and four assists in 32 outings, while also claiming seven man-of-the-match awards, to help Ruben Amorim’s side clinch the Portuguese title.
That form has seemingly caught the eye of United and Liverpool, who are now exploring the possibility of bringing him back to England.
Goncalves joined Wolves as a teenager and made one appearance for the club after emerging from their youth ranks, before heading back to Portugal in 2019 with FC Famalicao.
